Early that morning, the victims were taken to the hospital for treatment and checkup, directives were also made and they were all dismissed from their PPA back home. It was really a terrible event.
As a sister PPA and also friends, we went to sympathize with them while they came back to the lodge to pack their things. Words can't explain that humiliation, shame and regret I saw in their eyes
Meanwhile, the proximity of the two PPAs and the absence of no guaranteed security had sent panic in us, we don't know these guys neither do we know what line of action they would take next, we just thought its better to be proactive and not just take a useless and harmful risk. So, we all decided to evacuate the lodge and vowed not to return
In regards to this, our Gen CLO called the LI and told him of our plan and why we made that decision. However, the LI's response was heart breaking, he said: 'tell them not to panic, Uyeanda (my PPA) is safe and Nothing would happen to them'. That wasn't all, after several rounds of calling of which I even spoke to him once, he threatened that: 'if you leave, you're on your own, and I'll tell your principal not to give you your clearance forms' At this point! I gave up on him and decided to place a call to the ZI
ZI is a woman and a MOTHER who understood and sensed the pain and fear in my voice as I spoke with her. Her verdict was that we left the place immediately! That same night, I found my way to the city where I would at least feel safe. And I vowed I never to return to that place! Never!
This story is so sad because these girls have been left with external condemnation, stigma and trauma, imagine a rogue, dirty pig and primitive nuisance raping a girl.
Countless evils are befalling corps members in Rivers State, but guess what? The nation doesn't even get to know... the NYSC authorities and the state government bury everything. To make the matter worse, these guys won't be apprehended, justice wouldn't speak against those animals. The police is not even doing anything about it
Serving corps members in the 'rural-rural' areas in Rivers see hell, they just post people's children to a place without assuring their security! The community people do not like us because we have committed the sin of coming to HELP them develop their community...
I just wish I could help those gilrs, I wish the tears I've shed in the last 48hours can do something
This happened in rivers state some 2days ago and it needs to fly out as the victims are not being cared for and nothing is being done about it till date.
